1958 Sputnik & The Space Age
The space age movement was all about Neil Armstrong's landing on the moon in 1969. This led to a space like looking looks in fashion, cars, architecture, posters, commercials. In my opinion I guess that space age was also inspired by the streamlining movement because of the fact that space equipment was all streamlined so that rockets will all be resistible and will have more velocity as the main thought of streamline.
In fashion there was also a big space age era in that period were woman used to wear space look a like objects, patterns and colours that had to do with space, rockets etc... White, black and silver where the main colours used.
The ball chair by Eero Aarnio was also inspired by spage age because of the ball moon shaped chair that he designed back in 1963. As i already mentioned in my previous post about pop art, in the space age movement there were also use of bright and fun colours but still keeping a silver space element in the second design as seen in the picture below.
As you can see in the image on your left had side, the models are wearing an outfit which in my opinion looks like an astronaut's fit. I forgot to mention that in that era glossy plastic boots were very popular, which were designed by Ossie Clark. Mainly because of the fact that plastic was very in vogue in that time, space age designers made a lot of use in their designs with this cheap material.
