Chart: Radical/Anti Design

Moving on to my third movement, I will be now communicating with you through pictures which as I have previously did by showing you what was going on through the:

Radical/Anti Design Movement

Memphis

○ Founded by Ettore Sottsass in 1981.

○Drew inspiration from Art Deco, Pop Art and 50s kitsch.

○ The Selene chair by Vico Magistretti (1966) was made of reinforced polyester [Fig. 1].
 ○ Within Anti-Design, there was a major preoccupation with space and storage.
○ They often tried to make their designs collapsible or stackable and easy to store

Miniature Panton Chairs Set of 5
Verner Panton, 1959

Inspired by Pop Art and Pop Culture, 1960 furniture design broke with the purism of modern functionalism. The use of new materials liberated furniture from the constraints of traditional structures and made it possible for designers to play imaginatively with form and color.

Studio 65

The Gufram ‘Multiples’ where produced from 1967 to 1976, are icons of Italian radical anti-design-movement, influenced by pop art, conceptual art, illusionism & naturalism.

Capitello by Studio 65

Studio 65 are better known for their red lips Bocca sofa, but I think the Capitello chair is brilliant..it has just the right amount of crazy for me. I took the bottom picture in the modern art museum in Munich last year..the lights are the seriously amazing Pillola lamps by Cesare Casati and Emanuele Ponzio.
